Pustara Zlatna Greda

📜 History · Beli Manastir

Pustara Zlatna Greda

Zlatna Greda was founded around 1870 as part of the Belje estate. This former settlement for farm workers lies in eastern Baranja, on the northern edge of Kopački rit. Most of the original buildings from the second half of the 19th century have survived (the administration building, the storehouse or granary, workers' housing...).

Today it is a harmonious whole of preserved utilitarian industrial architecture typical of the pustaras (estate farmsteads) of eastern Croatia. Its appeal and atmosphere are enhanced by the way the settlement blends into the surrounding Danube-Drava floodplain forests. Its location right next to Kopački rit is of great value and links it to the protection of the natural environment and the area's biodiversity.

The former administration building houses Eko centar Zlatna Greda. Its main aim is to protect natural and traditional values through education and nature visits following the principles of ecotourism.

The Ministry of Culture has granted the Zlatna Greda pustara the status of a protected cultural property.
