Muzej Đakovštine
Muzej Đakovštine (the Museum of the Đakovo Region) was founded in December 1951. It was first housed in an Art Nouveau building in what is now Ulica bana Jelačića, and as early as 1952 its first permanent exhibition opened and its archaeological, ethnographic, cultural-historical, numismatic and art collections were set up. Together with the library and the photo archive, these collections remain the backbone of a respectable museum holding of several tens of thousands of objects.
After several moves, in 2002 the Museum settled in its present home at Ulica Ante Starčevića 34. The building is divided into the permanent exhibition (archaeology, history, ethnology) on the ground floor and part of the first floor, a multi-purpose exhibition hall upstairs, which is currently the hub of all the Museum's activities (exhibitions, workshops, book launches, concerts, talks…), and offices. In 2015 a new building was completed in the Museum's courtyard, and the storerooms and museum library were moved into it. This gave the Museum proper space for keeping its collections in controlled climate conditions, along with everything else needed for museum work to develop without hindrance.
